About the Role
Summer VISTA members serve 10 week terms, beginning June 5th, 2023, serving alongside year-long counterparts, a few positions of which are currently posted, but are more involved in direct service rather than capacity building. Depending on the organization you serve with, this may involve any combination of planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, sorting, washing, packing, and distributing produce; as well as direct outreach and education in the communities served.
1) $3,385 living allowance paid in bi-weekly installments during your term
2) End of Service Award - your choice of:
2A) Segal Education Award: $1,460 to use on tuition and other academic expenses, cost of living while in school, or repayment of student loans
2B) Cash Stipend: $345.80
Positions which are currently open for applications are below. Please check back for additions to this list, as we are actively writing additional opportunities.
About the Organization
Hello! Thank you for your interest in our 10-week Summer VISTA program. Our hiring deadline has passed for the 2023 cohort, but we'd love to discuss any of our year-long positions with you and invite you to apply to next year's summer cohort.
We are an AmeriCorps VISTA program currently placing full-term members with organizations in Ames, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City. We expect there to be summer opportunities in all of these areas except for Ames.
In contrast to year-long VISTAs, summer members are encouraged to engage in direct service at their sites. For many of our sites, this will involve direct involvement in food production on farms, where you will become an expert on growing, harvesting, and distributing fresh, local, affordable produce. You will also support the ongoing capacity-building projects of full-term VISTA(s) at your site, becoming immersed in program management and gaining experience in professional writing and speaking for a variety of audiences.
